Innovative channel to promote ‘Paese Albergo’ project in Sicily

The new-generation tourist wants to experience the possibility of establishing new relations, not only with the other guests of the hotel, but mainly with the residents of the locality, adding the search for warm and sincere relations to the privacy anyone of us wants when times come to relax and spend free time.
The project “Paese Albergo” (Village hospitality), supported by the Sicily Government fund, consist in particular type of hospitality where rooms and/or apartments, within a radius of approx. 1 Km, are located within palaces and apartments which, being part of the historical centre, and being restored according to the local culture and work as B&B or Home Accomodation.
It promotes and manages, together with local municipalities and the other existing actors, new activities capable of re-positioning the territory on the tourist market, such as events, specific training courses in traditional sectors (hospitality, local cuisine, local sport events, artisanship, etc.).
New businesses are hence generated which associated to this new form of hospitality provides visitors more an experience of “temporary residents” of the area rather than that of “traditional tourists”
“Paese Albergo” is an innovative form of hospitality that can bring, sustainable development, economic animation and opportunities for the balanced utilization of the local resources and tourist potentialities.
In this context A.SI.PA. (Sicilian Association Paese Albergo) start up in April 2010 different channel and web services to promote events and local economy.

Karasicilia

Web site (www.karasicilia.it - www.asipa.it) offer (now in italian language soon also in english) to web-user a structured calendar of events programmed in Sicily using integrated marketing with social network (Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Youtube …).
Each event pubblished on web site is connected with “Paese Albergo” hospitality offer and local business handicraft, typical products, artistic productions to increase local economy.
Local operators and single users can also cooperate promoting events and offers that will be pubblished on web site and on social network channel (over 2000 friends on facebook in only one month).
An innovative system developed consist in a “talking chair” that positionet in the center of the village and connected via WIFI to internet inform who sits on about the history, the culture and the events of the week.
Also standard promoting channel like depliant and under-plate are distributed each month to commercial spots.

  • Focus is a new product resulted by the collaboration between the company PROTUA and the POLI.Design consortium.

    Protua is a start up company active in the field of cultural heritage and tourism.

    POLI.design is the design research centre for enterprises and institutions of “Politecnico di Milano”

    The new product “Focus by protua” is able to support ina a natural way the knowledge about the surrounding enviroment.

    Focus shows the user the view, just as a normal telescope would do. But if something arouses your curiosity, you stop for a fraction of a second to have a better look.
    Focus detects your pause and responds in the most natural way possible, by showing you the name of what you are watching at.

    If you keep on looking Focus will understand your desire to know more and will offer you a series of images of the feature and finally a descriptive video.

    I’m one of the ideators, creators and developers of the project Focus since four years ago and now the product is ready for the great public. I hope this product, of our mind, can be useful to improve culture and entertainment.

    The Barcamp about ICTs and Tourism

    The importance of ICTs in the tourism field is growing more and more. A new discipline called eTourism is nowadays rising, studying the interaction between technologies and tourism. This sector is becoming strategic for lots of companies. For the new companies, there is a strong competitive advantage exploiting the potentiality of the web2.0 where users create their own comments or reviews of their tourism experience thanks to user generated contents.
    The innovation seems to be bottom-up, so from the users who are pushing high and high the web2.0 concepts sharing pictures, videos and experiences.
    Barcampers are the most innovative population in the field; eTourCamp would be a place where share opinions, understand new trends in the field of ICT for tourism.

    Following the suggest of my friend and mentor “Roberto Galoppini”, i like to share with you this success story community.

    Toronto Transit Camp

    Inspired by Toronto Bloggers’ recent call for community comments on the TTC’s website, and new TTC Chair Adam Giambrone’s receptivity to this approach, a core group of the Toronto BarCamp community gathered to brainstorm ways to better “The Better Way” and to increase the Commission’s engagement with its passionate community of users (see a comprehensive summary of this session on the Radiant Core blog). Conversation quickly moved to related community-driven creative work such as Spacing’s TTC station buttons, Torontoist’s user-created t-shirt designs, transit systems design and experience, music, and culture built around the TTC. We felt that our talents and experience at organizing similar events, together with the passionate readers and editors from Reading Toronto, Spacing, blogTO, Torontoist, Transit Toronto, and our city’s transit and tech geeks, creates an opportunity to help the TTC rethink the role of their website and the benefits available to the Commission by tapping the amazing creative energy and passion in the community.

    Italian BarCamp is moving in this direction too, with the RitaliaCamp a non conference that borm as a community based on reproject the italia.it public funded tourism portal.

    I will work in the same direction of RitaliaCamp, I feel in this way a great opportunity.
